Limb Lengthening: Femur

Presenting

This 34 year old man had severely fractured both of his femurs while living in Mexico. Upon referral to Dr. Brinker's  office 14 months after injury and surgical treatment in Mexico, his left femur was 6 inches shorter than his right, preventing him from walking and working.

Treatment in Progress

These x-rays taken after Ilizarov lengthening show that the left leg is now straight and equal in length to the right. The patient walks without assistance in normal shoes.

This photograph and x-ray taken after Ilizarov treatment with lengthening over a nail show that the left leg is now equal in length to the right. The patient walks without assistance and has returned to work in Mexico.
